  • [es-pree de less-ka/-iay] (idiom) A witty remark that occurs to you too late, literally on the way down the stairs. The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations defines esprit de l'escalier as, "An untranslatable phrase, the meaning of which is that one only thinks on one's way downstairs of the smart retort one might have made in the drawing room."

Definitely good memories, I miss making answering machine messages. It's inspiring me to create a new message for my mobile :)

There are certain days where the sun shines a certain way, or there's a particular scent on the breeze that whisks me back to my house growing up. I do miss that feeling of being stuck in an x foot radius of the telephone in the kitchen in order to talk on the phone. I sorta want a corded phone in my kitchen again for nostalgic reasons.

I love the idea of having a corded phone in the kitchen. I like the imposed boundaries, beyond just the nostalgic appeal. After all of our cordless and cellular abilities, having to stay put seems so refreshing.

we used to do this too. Now in answer machine crazy land (well voice mail) i can call my brother and my dad who have the exact same message with different names - even the clearing of the throat is at the same place.
